This method allows them to produce one tonne of cellulose from 2.3 tonnes of dead leaves, which is a much more sustainable approach compared to using wood. In fact, to produce the same amount of cellulose using wood, they would have to cut down 17 trees.
Cities face the challenge of managing green waste, particularly dead leaves, which can cause pollution and carbon emissions if not handled properly. Releaf Paper saw an opportunity in this waste and partnered with waste collection authorities in European cities to collect green waste and turn it into sustainable paper products.

Releaf Paper’s manufacturing process requires 15 times less water and emits 78 percent less carbon dioxide compared to traditional methods, as they do not use sulfur and chlorine. Their paper also biodegrades faster than regular paper, lasting only 30 days in the soil compared to 270 days for traditional paper.
